She’s a little bit jazzy and he’s a little bit legit; she’s a multi-MAC Award winner and he’s a Bistro Award winner; together they’re ringing in the holiday season! Music Director Paul Stephan has created the arrangements for these award winning singers that make Sue and Edd’s FABULOUS Christmas Show a celebration of the wonderful music of the Christmas and a perfect way to get into the spirit of the season. The show features new takes on such familiar holiday carols as “Carol of the Bells”, new holiday classics like “Christmas in New York” by Jana Jillo and “All Those Christmas Clichés” by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, and the outrageously funny (and a little bit irreverent) songs, “The Gift of Maggie” (from the Mad Show) and “Pretty Little Dolly” featured on the Dr. Demento Christmas album.  This is a 15 song CD of their hit show, which will be available on www.CDBaby.com by December 1st and sold at their live shows in New York as follows:

Saturday, December 1st at 7:00 p.m.         CD Release Party with special guest JAY ROGERS
Wednesday, December 5th at 7:00 p.m.    special guest DANA LORGE
Friday, December 14th at 9:30 p.m.           special guest RICK SKYE
Sunday December 16th at 3:00 p.m.          special guest JOAN CROWE

There is a $20 cover ($15 for MAC/Hotline Members) and a 2 drink minimum. Special CD price of just $10 for the CD Release Party and thereafter, just $15 or 2 for $25! Reservations are recommended.

Sue Matsuki and Edd Clark

The 2006 show was so successful that Edd and I went into the recording studio and the result is Sue and Edd’s FABULOUS Christmas, a 15 song CD of the show, which will soon be available on CDBaby.com and for sale at the shows. Can't wait? Click here to order it online today.

This is also part of the ongoing series by Joseph John Productions for the benefit of Cabaret Cares. This is a one night only reprise performance of the highly acclaimed Tribute to Ella, First Lady of Song that Sue did a few years ago and just recently did out of town. While Sue herself admits that no one can sing like Ella, this show explores all of the fantastic music covered by Ella in her illustrious career during her Great American Songbook Series. This is not the “all scat” jazz show, just great songs done is Sue’s easy, jazzy style. Sue will be singing songs like: Blues Skies, Mack the Knife, How High the Moon, Lullaby of Birdland, Embraceable You, Love for Sale, A Tisket, A Tasket and more. Accompanying her this evening will be Gregory Toroian on piano and Tom Hubbard on bass.

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2005

The Hideaway Room at Helen's
169 Eighth Avenue (between 18th & 19th)
is proud to present:
Le Menu for 10 Years in the Making
A Seven Course Meal
A new show every week for 7 weeks

The Appetizer – Show #1
Today’s Special: Helen’s Grilled Calamari
Sue’s Favorite Snacks
Sunday, October 9th 2:00 pm
This is the “sampler show”, one of Sue’s favorite sets. This show features several tunes that Sue has been performing in her Tribute to Ella show as well as an eclectic mix of tunes by Elvis Costello; Mel Torme; Carly Simon and the Great American Songbook. This show will give the new audience member an idea of how Sue & Gregory work and of how they strive to find A NEW TAKE through their arrangements.

Mixed Greens – Show #2
Tonight’s Special: Helen’s Arugala Salad
Bits of this n’ that tossed with some original ingredients
Friday, October 14th 7:00 pm
Tunes that we haven’t done in awhile that made the cut for this run but not for any of the specifically themed shows in this series. Five of these tunes are originals songs written by friends of both Sue & Gregory’s and, talk about an eclectic mix…there’s a song about a horny lion, a tune that Mel Torme wrote that never “made it” as well as a few American Songbook tunes and some of my jazz favorites.

Zuppa de Showtunes – Show #3
Today’s Special: Helen’s “Wicked” Good Pumpkin Bisque
A medley of new ingredients creating one hot stew
Sunday, October 23rd 2:00 pm
Sue performed a different version of this show about 5 years ago as an exercise in going outside of her comfort zone and exploring other genres of music. Sue takes you back to when she was a kid upstairs in her bedroom pretending to be Striesand, Andrews or Moreno in front of her “Wall Full of Mirrors”. In this all new version, she explores jazzy takes on show music and has created a one woman, mini-Broadway drama just for you this evening.

The Entrée – Show #4
Tonight’s Special: Helen’s Lamb Chops & Garlic Mashed Blue Potatoes
Mash Those Blue Potatoes (Who knew potatoes got sad?)
Friday, October 28 th 7:00 pm
This show is the “main course” in this series because, from the opening number (written by Sue & Gregory) to her covering of blues tunes done by Gloria Lynn, Dakota Staton & Bonnie Raitt and right up to the Ellington closer, Sue trumpets “everyone spread the news, this white girl, can damn well sing the blues”! It’s also a wicked funny show but you have to come to find out why!

Dessert – Show #5
Today’s Special – A Plate of Sweetness
Serving up the sweetness of the gals who make me want to sing
Saturday, November 6th 2:00 pm
Custom tailored versions of this show have played all over the East Coast but the show that books the most is the Billie, Peggy & Ella version. Tonight is a sampler of some of the other gals that I have paid tribute to over the years as well as Ella and Peggy. All of these gals have inspired me to sing. If I could take Ella’s musicianship, Sarah’s vocal quality, Peggy’s sexiness, Dakota’s wild abandon, Rosemary’s phrasing, etc., I’d have what I’d call “Frankensinger”. They cannot be duplicated of course so what I have taken from all of these gals are lessons.

The Cheese Platter – Show #6
Tonight’s Special: Interntional Tastes – Brie, Smoked Mozzarella & Gouda
Funny cheesy bites of the Matsuki’s travel life
Friday, November 11th 7:00 pm
Never underestimate the power of cheese! Sue has always been known to be a pretty funny story teller and has been told many times, “You should do stand up.” So she did, at Caroline’s, doing her travel set and it killed. A reviewer once wrote, “I don’t know if I go back to see her because she sings great or because she’s so funny.” He also said, “Just don’t let her husband make your travel plans.” What he didn’t realize, of course, is that the Matsuki’s own a Travel Agency…NOT the best ad for their business but a great “review” for this show!

The Apperitif – Show #7
Tonight’s Special: Champagne for Everyone!
A wine tasting of brand new songs
November 18th 9:30 pm [SOLD OUT! But we’ll bring it back.]
Come celebrate Sue’s 47 th Birthday and the “birth” of a new decade of this musical partnership! Tonight’s FREE concert and party is the debut of Sue & Gregory’s brand new set of tunes, tunes that they have never performed together before. This is their “gift” to you…dear friends, family, fans and press who have supported them over these past 10 years! SOLD OUT!

This show will present all the material that my Musical Director and Collaborator of the past 10 years, Gregory Toroian, and I have done together. We will run this show for 6 weeks with a different show every week! Come see pieces from:

Speaking of Happiness…Your Stories
A Wall Full of Mirrors…A Reflective Piece
Team Work
A Tribute to the Gals Who Make Me Want to Sing
JAM N’ TOASTS
More Jammin’, Less Toasts
Ella Fitzgerald, The First Lady of Song
Plus…some show tunes and new tunes AND…Gregory sings!
